Pun’s Labyrinth IV – Our Biggest Event Yet!

Puns2015Pun’s Labyrinth went without a hitch this year! We had great weather, a huge turnout, and an awesome three rounds of disc golf mixed in with camping and good times! Additional pictures of the event can be found on our Punderson Disc Golf Facebook Page.

The Course Record was Broken:

The course record was broken from the Blues to Long pins by both Scott Stokely and Manabu Kajiyama (who joined us all the way from Japan!) with a score of 66 each, which is 3 under par!

Two Aces were Hit the First Round:

Manabu Kajiyama and Tom Weremblewski Jr. both hit an Ace the first round. Awesome job guys!

Players from Japan Enjoy our Course:

Manabu Kajiyama, Shigecko Sekiguchi, and Kazuo Shirai all joined us from Japan on their way to Worlds this year. If you play the course regularly you may have met them getting ready for the tournament playing three rounds a day while they were in town. At the end of the tournament Manabu expressed his enjoyment of the course and being a part of our event. Manabu took 3rd Place in Open while Kazuo finished with only 6 strokes above par, so all of that practice definitely payed off!

Scott Stokely’s Announcement:

Scott Stokely has been out of the disc golf scene for around a decade, and this year he is making a comeback going on tour and playing in the PDGA Pro Disc Golf  World Championships this year in the Masters division. During our awards ceremony, Scott announced that our course, as of right now, was THE best wooded disc golf course he has ever played. This announcement was huge, as our course is maintained by a few extremely dedicated volunteers, even if this recognition doesn’t last for long, we were extremely grateful to hear it. Scott is also doing a series of clinics on his tour, many aimed at helping those with disabilities or special needs. Please follow his Facebook Page to see where he will be next!

THANK YOU to all of our Sponsors, Volunteers and Prize Donors!

Pun’s Labyrinth IV – Are you ready?

PunsCleanOur annual disc golf tournament is a just a few days away, and the course looks awesome thanks to our volunteers including Bob Becker, Andy Morrison, Eric ‘Sharky’ Boyd, John Luker, Travis Bailey, Paul Keller and everyone else who helped get the course ready for this event and keeping it groomed throughout the year! Paul Keller also donated garbage cans to the course which are helping to keep it much cleaner. Because the park is short staffed, we appreciate everyone who makes an effort to keep the course looking good, and right now it is looking awesome! Tall grasses were whacked, vines were torn down, and a lot of brush and pesky Hawthorne limbs removed! We can’t thank everyone enough, including our regular player’s and fans, who support the course and our events throughout the year.

It paid off to register early and get on the wait list this year. So far somewhere around 10 players have made it into the event from the wait list. We expect to fill up again next year, so make a note if you didn’t get in this year to register early next year! However, if you didn’t make it into Pun’s Labyrinth this year, You are still welcome to stop up and visit us at the Sport’s Chalet for our epic prize raffle and browse our disc selection.

This year, we also have a new event, the Pine Lake Open that we will be hosting in September, on Saturday the 26th. This ALL BLUES, two round event will give you a great experience on the course and we hope to make this an annual fall event. Pun’s Labyrinth IV – July 25th-26th 2015

Are you ready for Pun’s Labyrinth IV?

We certainly are, and there is something special about this year’s event – our event is scheduled the weekend before the PDGA Professional World Championships begin, in near-by Pittsburgh, PA. This leaves one to contemplate taking some time off, and having one of the most epic disc golf weeks ever!

As it has been for the last two years, the tournament will be a PDGA Sanctioned C-Tier, 2 Day event located in the beautiful, as well as historical Punderson State Park in Newbury, OH. A huge thanks to Eric ‘Sharky’ Boyd for taking on the responsibility of Tournament Director this year!

Our tournaments are always a lot of fun and we encourage players of all kinds to come join us for this event!

The Friends of Punderson Disc Golf Course is located in Punderson State Park along Pine Lake, containing uphill, downhill, wooded and lake-side tees. We are also hoping that the the island on Pine Lake will be a playable part of the course soon.

If you plan to stay at the park for the tournament in a cabin or a room in the rumored to be haunted manor house, we recommend that you book early as July is a busy time of year for the park. The manor is also currently undergoing renovations this winter which we expect will make your stay a pleasant one in the upcoming season. We will update once we have confirmed if group primitive camping will be included this year (we hope to make this so – but want to wait until it is confirmed). If you want to bring a camper or motor home with electricity and water hook-ups we suggest that you book the proper campsite now.
