Pun’s Labyrinth VI – July 22-23, 2017

Registration has gone live for Pun’s Labyrinth VI – our sixth year running this event.

However as some noticed there are some changes this year:

  • PDGA B-Tier Event (Previously a C-Tier)
  • Field is Open to more players
  • Format will be different from previous years
  • Pre-Tournament Friday Blowfly Doubles Round (for those in town early)
  • Island Hootenanny (on the island) with live music by EBDB Saturday evening
  • Mid-Tournament Saturday Night Singles Glow Round
  • Island is now in play with a basket on the island & a platform tee from the island
  • 27 hole course layout in the works (final formats to be determined)

We are still early in the year with lots of time before the event. We are hoping the change from a C to a B Tier will help us bring in some more players and open up the event so nobody who wants to play will miss out this year. Each year the bar is raised a little and we have raised it again in hopes of taking the event in another step in the right direction.

Lots of course improvements were made in 2016 and we are hoping the State Park manages to find the time to make a few improvements as well:

  • Island bridge was installed (thanks to donors & volunteers)
  • More benches were built and installed (thanks to donors & volunteers)
  • Island platform / tee pad constructed & installed (thanks to donors & volunteers)
  • Plans to expand the course were established with the park
  • The state is to install restrooms at the course, hopefully before the tourney
  • The state is aware of the need for a larger parking lot

Events like this are made possible by donations and volunteers working with the Ohio State Park system through the Friends of Punderson State Park non-profit organization. Below is a video of a drive off of the platform tee on the island:

Ice Bowl – Saturday, January 28th – Island Platform Update

It’s been a while and there have been some big changes at the course!

Tomorrow is our Ice Bowl! Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item (canned, boxed, pasta, rice, peanut butter, tuna, etc.) for Geauga County Job and Family Services’ Pantry. We will use the same format as in the past. Tee off will be 10am. One round of reds to longs. 3 divisions, Advanced, Intermediate and Recreational. Optional Mulligans (6 for $5). 50% of entry fees and Mulligan proceeds go to Geauga County Jobs and Family Services charity food program. One food item required with entry fee.
Advanced will pay out in cash, Intermediate and Recreational will pay out in merch.
WE WILL HEADQUARTER AT THE DISC GOLF COURSE THIS YEAR, NOT THE SPORTS CHALET. We will have a fire going and some form of temporary shelter, but please dress accordingly. Hopefully the mild weather will continue, but we will play regardless. No Whimps, No Whiners! Hope to see you out there.

Our island now has a platform as an alternate tee pad for hole #3 – that’s right, you can now play to the island and from the island! Thanks to all the hardworking and dedicated volunteers for making this happen! Below is a video of the platform in play made by Theodore Mote:

Pun’s Labyrinth V Disc Golf Tournament – Punderson State Park

We are getting ready for Pun’s Labyrinth V July 23 & 24th this year located in beautiful Punderson State Park in Newbury, OH! The course has been kept up by our very dedicated volunteers as the park staff has only been doing some minimal mowing and right now looks its best ever! Although our course is in a State Park, that doesn’t mean that the park maintains the course. Currently the Friends of Punderson are responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and running our events.

The Island is in, however the island basket WILL NOT BE IN PLAY for the tournament. We look forward to it being an addition to our weekly leagues and maybe some other events however right now it is not “tournament ready”.

This year we will also have another epic prize raffle! Please bring CASH as we may not be able to take credit cards the day of the event. ANYONE is allowed to participate in the prize raffle as it is a fundraiser for our course/events. If you cannot stay for the prize raffle, you will have to tell Cupcake directly who you are trusting to collect your winnings for you, otherwise we will draw another winner. We cannot afford to ship prizes to winners. All proceeds from the raffle go back into the disc golf course and future events! It is the best time to make a donation to Punderson’s Disc Golf Course. Please visit Disc Golf Scene for all of our wonderful prizes this year including a Zuca, Inc. Cart (formerly Ridge Roller donated by Zuca), a Dosh Board Golf Game (disc golf board game donated by Dosh Board Golf), Lake Erie Monsters tickets for the 2016-2017 season, Lake County Captains Tickets, tickets to the Improv Comedy Club, a large Discatcher Sport portable basket and a Discatcher Mini Basket along with a ton of other great items this year!

We are expecting some very HOT weather, with current temps predicted to be in the mid 90’s – please make sure to bring everything you need to stay cool and hydrated! We will try to provide some water out on the course as well.
